TLDR: Being a defense lawyer for an idiot client must be one of the hardest jobs in the world.
.
In 2009, Dalia Dippolito tried to hire a hitman to kill her husband, but was talking to an undercover cop, who filmed the entire thing. In 2011 she went to trial. She refuses to plead guilty, forcing her defense attorney to argue that it was a ploy for a reality TV show.
.

I’m not joking. I’m 100% serious.
.
Folks, if you are clearly caught on camera hiring a hitman to kill your spouse, just take a plea deal. Don’t subject your poor defense attorney to the undignified fate of making ridiculous arguments to try to claim your innocence.
.
The defense lawyers would have to go to a judge to request a withdrawal, and it is unlikely to be granted because they know that no one else would want to fight your case. They are stuck with you. They are trying to help you. Let them make both of your lives easier.
.
When you don’t, you force that poor, innocent defense attorney to make embarrassing arguments in your defense. Now, that lawyer might actually believe her, who knows? But this seems like a situation where a lawyer is forced to represent a client that is determined to make his life as hard for him as possible.
.
I feel so sorry for any defense attorney who is forced to deal with hard-headed clients. Especially if they are forced to become a legal contortionist for a client that is totally screwed, but does not know when to quit.
.
To all defense lawyers out there, I promise that if I ever get in legal trouble, I will just take your educated advice. There will be no arguments of reality TV shows from me.

For those of you that don’t know the story of Dalia Dippolito, here’s a news article about her: https://abcnews.go.com/US/florida-woman-dalia-dippolito-reality-tv-defense-murder/story?id=13467249 . One of my favorite YouTube Channels, JCS Psychology has a fantastic 50 minute video about her. I highly recommend it: https://youtu.be/7JttwV6XZ_I .
